There's nothing funny about breast cancer.

But a good laugh goes a long way toward raising awareness and supporting local women battling disease, said Ashley Hamm, executive director of Lubbock's Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The organization will hold the second annual Laugh for the Cure comedy show and auction Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., Hamm said. A preview of auction items will begin at 6 p.m., she said.

"We are constantly looking for ways to spread the message about breast cancer awareness," Hamm said. "Breast cancer is a very serious issue, but women have told us that laughter is healing and helps them get through it."

The PG show will feature an Oklahoma-native, California-based comedian who goes by the name BT, along with three-time Emmy nominee and Peabody Award Winner Debi Gutierrez.

Gutierrez's humorous recount of parenting and relationships promises to "strike a chord of truth that makes everyone laugh," Hamm said. The award-winning artist has appeared on Lifetime, Showtime, HBO and ABC, among others.

Hamm said 75 percent of the money raised will support local education, screening and treatment initiatives.

"The other 25 cents (on the dollar) goes toward national research programs," Hamm said.

Tickets are $30 from Select-A-Seat locations (also by calling 806-770-2000 or visiting www.-selectaseatlubbock.com) and the event will take place at the Memorial Civic Center.

Hamm said sponsorship opportunities are also available by calling the Komen office at 698-1900. Event sponsors will be invited to a "meet the comedians hour" before the event, she said.
