DESCRIPTION:WHAT: The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Anita Thigpen Perry School of Nursing will host its next Community Health Worker Certification Class Orientation. This training opportunity is available to individuals who are interested in making a difference in their community.WHEN: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 10)WHERE: Larry Combest Community Health & Wellness Center, 301 40th St.EVENT: Community health workers act as liaisons between health agencies and the community, serve as case managers, distribute information and provide education to members of the community.If you are a natural helper and leader then you could be a community health worker. Classes begin Aug. 17 and are from 5:30 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday.Registration is $80, and fees are due at orientation. The course is 10 months with two weeks off for Christmas and New Year’s Day and one week off for Thanksgiving and Spring Break.Tuition for the course, which is certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services, is $800. All materials are included. Scholarship opportunities also are available to eligible individuals.
